Where to log in on a WordPress site

A common question from beginner WordPress users I've seen on discussion boards is for something important yet so seemingly simple that more advanced users take for granted: how to log in to the WordPress site.

Say you're a complete WordPress beginner. You sit down to your super cool new website. Maybe it was built by a designer or developer, maybe you used a tool on GoDaddy or some other hosting company to install it for you. Either way, you're ready to log in and make some changes or new posts or pages. You go to your website and look around. Where do you log in? Ugh oh.

There may not necessarily be a "log in" button or link on your WordPress website, especially if a designer or developer made the website for you. The "log in" area might be something you don't want your website visitors to click on because you only want certain people to be able to access it (maybe you only want yourself to log in).

Luckily almost all WordPress installations have the same way to log in, unless a developer made some custom changes.

Let's say you're website is at http://example.com . You should be able to add "/wp-admin" to the end of the URL to get to the log in screen. http://example.com/wp-admin/

Yes, for most cases that's all you have to do.

Sometimes WordPress is installed in a directory, such as "/blog", so you might have to do something like http://example.com/blog/wp-admin to access it. You can find out by clicking some links on the homepage and try to get to an area that looks like WordPress or a blog and try to put "/wp-admin" at the end of the URL.
